A note about some things that have surprised me since starting The Danaher Method...
Living this entrepreneur life and working in the fitness space full time, I’m constantly surprised. I’m surprised by the things I thought would be hard but are not and then I’m surprised by the things I thought that would be easy that are not.
One of my not so scientific strategies early on in starting this was to keep moving forward in the direction the momentum was taking me in.
In 2020 that meant free virtual workout classes as a way to give back in the heart of the pandemic and as I was figuring out how to communicate this movement method.
In 2021 the momentum was outdoor classes and bopping around the city to a few private clients.
In 2022 it was finding a studio home at The Floor and centralizing private clients and classes there. This also meant being able to create the space and movement experience for clients that being outdoors didn’t allow.
In 2023 the momentum was leveling up and educating myself further. It meant a 12+ month and 350+ hour Pilates anatomy, mat and Reformer training. This has allowed me to bring the Pilates method in as a central pillar of The Danaher Method.
It’s been surprising and scary and freeing to be able to go with the momentum. The surprising thing is where the path has taken me and it isn’t exactly what I expected…
I spend the majority of my time working with clients one-on-one seeing between 3 and 7 clients per day. This is surprising to me because, starting out, I planned to be a group fitness instructor…
The thing about the momentum though was, as I started to take on individual clients, it quickly became clear that this was to be a larger portion of my time. Working one-on-one, it's so rewarding to help people feel good, for someone to come in with an acute issue and to be able to make them feel good in their body and when they move…or maybe it’s not an acute issue but rather in working together they can move, feet strong, fit and learn a little bit about their body…
What working one-on-one with me looks like:
I always have a call with a prospective client before we have our intro session. Sometimes it’s 10min, sometimes it’s an hour discussion where we go deep into what’s bringing them to movement and seeking our one-on-one training. There’s no pressure to share anything personal but one thing that’s important is people understand that my approach is mindful and holistic. I’m not that trainer or Pilates teacher who will only run you thru an hour workout, it’s more than that… I’m going to ask you what’s going on with your body, how you are feeling, how I can bring in my training & experience to make you feel good in your body. Because that’s what this is all about, you feeling good in your body.
Then we have an initial session. It’s $65, less than half the cost of a regular session. Private training is an investment in yourself and I think you should feel very comfortable in knowing who and what you’re getting into.
After that we cruise into our sessions…each session is a little different depending on what my client and I are working on and how that client is feeling. Some days it’s a full Pilates reformer session moving thru all planes of motion. Or, if a client has an injury or discomfort, we’ll start with Myofascial Release then mobilization then moving thru more planes of motion. The sessions are dynamic, a little bit of a discovery as the client and I work toward organizing their body.
I’m working with a client right now who is in his 70s. Has been fit his whole life - running, skiing, biking. He’s had wear and tear osteoarthritis in a few joints which brought him to me. As we’ve been working together we discovered muscular imbalances (we all have ‘em) and work on foot & ankle biomechanics, his gate (stride & muscle recruitment) and balance. It’s an ongoing discovery and keeping him skiing with his kids & buddies and doing the things he likes to do…
I’m curious what surprises 2024 will have in store which is ironic as I do my best to focus, plan and build…Let’s see…

Other Things Happenings...
Corporate Wellness
Thank you to The Arc SF, a non profit based in San Fran, my old home!, for inviting me to be a part of their leadership retreat (virtually). Corporate Wellness is cornerstone of my business where I leverage my experience in both the corporate and wellness world to bring movement, stress relief and nervous system regulation into corporate organizations.
With The Arc I led a 20 minute self-myofascial release session where I walked their board of directors thru release techniques for the head, neck, shoulders and wrists. They work at desks all day AND help people all day so it was nice for them to have a little self love and send them on their way with tools on how to bring some desk sitting relief into their day...
Classes @ The Floor
For my class peeps, the schedule is a little funky this month while I take some time away from the studio (life is happening!). Check the schedule online for the latest schedule. In March we will have a regular schedule and possibly a Monday call
