Hello October! Thanks for being here. This month is all about Roll & Release. Don't think we aren't working hard and getting stronger. In fact, I'm witnessing everyone working very hard in the studio, in 1:1s and in online classes. I am seeing so much leveling up and it's AWESOME!
Here's where the Roll & Release focus comes in. As you're getting stronger, it is as important, if not more so, to balance the hard work with softening and releasing. This is where the Danaher Method is different from the other programs that emphasize only the grid. AT TDM, WE GRIND AND SOFTEN.
It's also running season. Many in the community are getting in miles on the pavement and some of us are training for races (ahem painfully slogging their way thru NYC Marathon training - AMIRIGHT?!)
With the idea of balancing hard work with recovery, this month the focus is on Roll & Release for Running .
Not a runner? This applies to you too... Do you walk? Do you sit? Do you go up and down stairs? Read on :)
Focus of the Month: Roll & Release for Running!

Why is Roll & Release Important?
Roll & Release targets the release of our muscles & fascia.
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, muscle, bone, blood vessel and nerve ending in place - like your body’s own scaffolding! The tissue does more than provide internal structure; fascia has nerves that make it almost as sensitive as skin. When stressed, it tightens up.
Running is stress on the body. Running is generally good stress on the body but it's repetitive. Repetitive stress on the body, without release, can contribute to muscle fatigue, injury and pain.
So what do we do?
We spend time releasing the muscles. When you release fascia you help to ease tight muscles, improve blood and nutrient flow within the network and down-regulate your nervous system.
I first started to practice myofascial release because I was training for a marathon and experiencing all the aches and injuries that come along with endurance training. I would not still be running today without it.
And guess what, it only 90 seconds are needed to release tight muscles so we don't need hours of foam rolling.
